Basic AutoCAD for Marine Designers
W A I T I N G L I S T
Instructor: Cliff Estes
This six-week course is designed for those with no experience in or knowledge of AutoCAD. Those with some AutoCAD level of comfort might consider taking "Intermediate AutoCAD for Marine Designers" instead.
Our instructor will introduce you to the workings of the AutoCAD program through a series of six lessons covering AutoCAD’s interface elements; creation and modification of geometry; and creation and modification of dimensions, text, and hatches. This course will be taught in generic AutoCAD so we will not address the differences between 2004, 2006, 2007 and the various LT versions. Students should acquire their own copies of either a demo version or one of the full-blown versions.
You will be required to read and comprehend written material covering the construction of drawings, including layers; dimension styles; text styles; layouts and plotting. Plan to spend at least an hour each day of this course on reading and exercises.
During this course, you will be able to communicate with your instructor on a regular basis via forums, assignments, on online messaging.
As a student in Basic AutoCAD, you will work with original text and example materials written by your instructor, Cliff Estes. You will not need to purchase any additional study materials.
Class outline
Week 1: AutoCAD Basics: The Interface
Week 2: Layers, Linetypes, and Annotation
Week 3: Hatches and Dimensions
Week 4: Advanced AutoCAD Concepts
Week 5: Plotting
Week 6: Creating a Marine Drawing Set
As you can see from the outline above, the course is not marine-specific until the final week. Again, if you have AutoCAD experience and are trying to polish your skills relative to marine drawings, you might consider waiting to take "Intermediate AutoCAD for Marine Designers."
Registration for the course is $390 (or $290 for Westlawn students). There is no additional processing fee. Signing up here for the WAITING LIST is free. Waiting list students will be notified when regular registraton opens, but they will not be added to the class roster until payment has been received.
Note: This class will begin this summer and will run for six weeks. This is NOT a "work at your own pace" course. You will have assignments and exercises to complete each week.
